Friday Five

Friday Five

I’ve never done a blog challenge before, so I thought I’d try it. Paper Hangover’s question this week is: What are your FIVE favorite writing communities? Here are mine:

Society of Children Book Writers and Illustrators. I just joined this organization this year. They hold two great yearly conferences and have a regional chapter with meet-ups in most areas. I’ve met lots of great YA writers here.

2. The James River Writers.

A great group! If you’re in the Virginia area, you should look into it. They have a Fall conference with agent pitches and a yearly Best Unpublished Novel Contest.

3.  American Independent Writers

They used to be called Washington Independent Writers. They also have a great conference and plenty of local events.

4. Absolute Writer Water Cooler (online)

If you’re looking for an online community, this is my favorite. It’s giant, and it has some of the best message boards I’ve seen.

5. NaNoWrimo

Also online. You’ve probably heard of this writing challenge that takes place every November. I haven’t done it yet, but I plan to this November.

Any I missed? Let me know.

  1. Doh! I forgot SCBWI…too many great ones to list! But I did have NaNo – great forum and many wonderful writerly peeps on there! Another fav is the WriteBrained Network – Ricki Schultz (she also lives in Virginia!) heads up that on-line writers group:
You should check it out if you haven’t already!
Happy Friday – and great list!
