Blog Hop

Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer (I love that name) is hosting a blog hop this week.  The question is: What is your favorite book set in a different country than the one you live in? Here’s my answer:

There are just so many books that I love that are set in other countries. It’s incredibly hard to choose, but these four come to mind:

1. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

2. The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht

3. Zoli by Colum McCann

4. Stones For Ibarra by Harriet Doerr

How about you? Have you read any of these? What’s your favorite book set in a different country than the one you live in?

  1. Yes, I enjoyed Tiger’s Wife…but I read The Night Circus around the same time and LOVED that one. Now, what are my favorites? So hard because sooo many of the books I really like are set in a different country–even the books I write are!
    Map of Time (OMG!)
    All Austen
    Crime and Punishment (haunts me)
Anna K (I have a thing for Russia I guess)
    13th Tale
    Book Thief
    12th Enchantment (Gah)

This is too hard, I can’t pick.

  2. I’ll go non-serious~ I’m in a chick lit mood, so I’ll say Bridget Jones’s Diary. I love a good novel set in England. Oooo, or anything by Maeve Binchy, rest her soul. LOVE her books set in Ireland. I know, I know, those don’t show much range in terms of culture for today’s pick.
